I am an interior designer who has experience in commercial and high-end residential interiors. Currently, as principal of my own firm, I have completed a gut renovation master bath project, and several residential apartment re-designs. For 4 years I was a principal and co-owner of a small residential interior design studio based in NYC, haus. by bjc. During my tenure there I designed a custom built-in loft bed and new storage for a boy's room and helped oversee the re-decoration of a family apartment in Hamilton Heights and a family duplex on the Upper West Side. I helped design and oversee the renovation of a Harlem brownstone parlor floor apartment, including a new bathroom and kitchen. I also designed millwork for a Berkshires cottage and a Brooklyn food hall vendor stall.
In commercial interiors at TPG Architecture and at jidk interiors + furniture design, I have drafted and negotiated contracts, specified office furnishings, devised color schemes, created presentation boards and developed furniture budgets. I have worked on the renovation of new offices for a law firm, an investment firm, a mutual fund company, an LA-based media agency and a Flatiron District-based "Silicon Alley" internet start-up. I have also worked on test fitting and programming the renovation of the existing offices for the IT department of an insurance company and in renovating the corridors and pantry in the NY offices of a European television network.
In residential interiors, I am experienced at taking site measurements, digitally and hand drafting plans and elevations, space planning and furniture layouts. Not only have I managed projects and specified interior architectural details, flooring, wall coverings, furnishings, soft and hard materials, and color schemes, but I also have made solo presentations to clients, obtained estimates from contractors and workrooms and worked on-site during installations. Residential projects while working at Barbara Ostrom Associates have included a Forest Hills, NY home, a senior residence clubhouse lobby, Hamptons new construction and the official residence of a college president. I have also assisted with show houses, including the Kips Bay show house in 2011 and on the 2012 Morristown and Saddle River show houses in New Jersey. I'm well versed in high-end residential materials, furnishings, fixtures and their sources.
I am familiar with commercial systems furniture and sources for carpet, stone, vinyl flooring, fabrics, ancillary and residential furniture and antiques and excel at sourcing unique pieces. I enjoy client interaction and collaborating with consultants, property managers, sales reps, vendors and craftspeople. I am comfortable organizing and processing complex projects that involve a lot of moving parts and details.
In addition to design work, I have done workplace design research from an environmental psych perspective for BBH-Design, including a clinic emergency department design research meta-synthesis, learning spaces design behavioral observational fieldwork and an employee workplace design survey content analysis.
I served on the board of directors of Manitoga/Russel Wright Design Center as its Treasurer, and am currently on the board's Finance Committee. I have a personal interest in freehand drawing, watercolor painting, mid-century modern design, Japanese crafts, African-American design history, biophilic design, and health care and evidence-based design research. I am an allied member of ASID.

GARNISH Competition - Architecture for Humanity NY Chapter & New York Cares, Honorable Mention
Architecture for Humanity New York is excited to launch our 2014 Design Competitions. Collaborating with the community winner from the first half of our competition, New York Cares and The Expeditionary Learning School for Community Leaders, we are launching the second half to this year’s competition.
The Expeditionary Learning School for Community Leaders serves grades 9-12, the school has a diverse cultural population that speaks over 22 different languages. Principal David O’Hara and staff have created a safe and supportive learning environment for their students utilizing a C.R.E.W. teaching system.
They are now looking to expand their Fine Arts programs including a renovated Culinary Lab and to create a Fine Art Studio within an existing classroom space. This classroom will undergo demolition and renovation thru the funding and support of New York Cares and their volunteers.
Competition participants will need to employ creativity for this fast paced competition. We encourage designers of all backgrounds, age, and skill sets to participate. The winning design will see their project constructed before the start of the 2014/2015 school year, and have their winning project on display at a AfHny hosted event.
