A middle-aged professional couple in Riverdale, NY desperately needed their circa 1980's master bathroom updated. The space incorporated a claustrophobic walk-in closet, a tiny and dark shower, dingy finishes and zero storage. My firm, Crockettstudio, ripped out the walls, expanded the walk-in shower and added recessed square LED lights. To brighten everything, white porcelain wall tiles were installed in the shower to contrast with the graphite porcelain floor tiles, which were also placed in the new shower wall niche just above a new folding teak shower seat. To make the space safer, a grab bar was added in the shower and new slim sconces were added to flank a new recessed mirrored medicine cabinet. In addition to the new cabinet and new wall-mounted matte glass vanity now offers an abundance of drawer storage. New custom wardrobes greet you when you enter the brightened space. A new nightlight tap wall switch, dimmers and a sleek modern radiator improve safety. Lastly, we moved the location of the door and replaced the rickety louver doors with a opaque glass-panel sliding door.
