The Ackerly at Sherwood

3rd Place in the DJC Top Senior Projects 2020, this new senior-living community focused on designing with an active lifestyle for residents in mind. Insights were brought in from other markets within Ankrom Moisan, especially urban living and hospitality to challenge the typical expectations of senior living. Some of the amenities encouraging wellness for the residents are a walking path around the perimeter of the building, a wellness suite and activity rooms, and an enclosed walking path for memory care residents.

The building materials were selected to create a modern Northwest rustic style, reflecting the nearby buildings. The building used fiber cement panelized and lap siding to create a variation of spaces over the enclosure. Glazing was used strategically to bring in light at the central amenity spaces, while creating smaller pocket courtyards around the exterior.

The units consist of 107 assisted living units, with a 28-bed memory care community. The overall design focused on a Y shape, to fit into the triangular site, allowing for as much natural light as possible for all units and creating a central amenities space where guests and visitors will enter.
