Located in the heart of Sandy, OR, this new clinic serves the residents of the town and surrounding communities. The new facility consolidates primary care, behavioral health, dental services, and a pharmacy into one location, allowing for easier access for low income residents, with public transportation stops adjacent to the site. There is a large community of farm workers in the area surrounding Sandy and a focus of this new clinic is to focus on services for them.
The building materials for the interior and exterior were selected to create a welcoming environment for patients. We used the City of Sandy Design Guidelines to appropriately fit into the context of the town, with a modern take on the Cascadian and Rustic styles. The design used a rustic base, heavy timbers, steep pitched metal roof, and wood-look fiber cement siding. The entry roof extends 5 feet to provide coverage for patients and families arriving during inclement weather during the winter months. The landscape design was performed internally by Ankrom Moisan and uses native plantings to provide privacy.
The separate clinic departments are organized around a widened center "street" with a mosaic tile artwork focal point, that is illuminated by a skylight. The staff lounge was centered between the departments to encourage mingling and mixing between the staff. All of the therapy rooms have views to the outside landscape, inviting natural light in.
