Pearl Pod

Location: Mariana Trench

Project Year: 2072

Built Up Area: 445 sq.ft

Target Audience: Underwater Campers | Travel Bloggers

Humanity hasn't explored underwater dwelling yet, and it's just a matter of time.  .

The increasing demand for campers and bloggers in the 21st century, and exponential advancement in the rising technology, we can definitely predict that the liquid life of earth will be the next living hub for humanity.      .

The 'Shell House' is derived from Oyster's mechanism of opening its shell during the day and closing it during self-defense from environmental threats. The Shell House acts to be a compact pod like momentary housing for bloggers, campers or researchers.
The shell (outer façade) is constructed of a thick water-resistant metal, with mobile façade features. The dense glass lets the users enjoy the underwater 360° view for the documentation/ research and gives them a thorough underwater livable experience at the same time. The spiral Staircase of the shell house acts as an interactive element by opening up and folding down as per the user’s demand. The shell house hence folds down its exterior façade and staircase when either not in use or during potential threats.      .

The spherical pod is tightly planned with unconventional space distribution. At the same time, it does have a generous amount of white space present throughout keeping users away from sea sickness and claustrophobia. The users enter through the top of the shell, leading them to working space on the upper floor. The bottom floors of the shell house has recreational and resting spaces including, Living, dining, kitchen and sleeping spaces.
