Food Court Revitalizations

Lionheart Capital asked DFA to produce a design to revitalize the food courts in two of their mall properties. Working on a restrictive budget we designed around impactful elements and incorporated as much of the existing infrastructure as possible. The primary expressive feature of the projects is a network of wood slat ceilings. I worked with the structural engineer to create a design for the slatted ceilings that is panelized and attaches to a suspended strut substructure to ease installation and integrate with the existing structural members. The designs also includes new central island vendor spaces with translucent canopies suspended above, stepped platforms for gathering and potential performance, fixed and freestanding tables, and a vendor guidelines package. I worked with the lighting designer to produce a design that utilized existing home runs and included integrated linear fixtures in the slatted ceiling and translucent panels. I worked in all phases of these projects.
