A semi-retired couple are looking to replace their existing detached garage with an attached garage and generational suite. They desire to remain in their home while allowing one of their children to move into the main house. This project is in the early phases and at this point is primarily focused on exploring a variety of possible arrangements to determine how much of the adjacent lot will need to be acquired to allow the project to be built. A large amount of research into the zoning standards as well as the contextual conditions was done to determine that the desired lot amendment would be allowed. Another important aspect was to create spaces that are more easily accessible than the existing house, with stairs that are shallower, meeting current code, and including space for the future inclusion of stair lifts or elevators if necessary.
