Bungalow Kitchen and Porch

This project updates the dilapidated original kitchen in an early twentieth century two-bedroom house as well as re-imagines the existing porch enclosure dating to the seventies. Non standard cabinets had lead to poorly integrated modern appliances and a stand-alone range sitting on the opposite wall. In addition to creating a better workflow within the space the project sought to create greater connection to the rest of the living spaces by enlarging the existing door into an elliptical archway, matching an existing feature of the central hall. An opening from the living room to the hall was also modified to have a matching arched profile and a closet on the opposite side of the hall was turned into a powder room. The primarily windowless porch enclosure was striped back to the original structure, inserting a bank of six windows across the front, a new front door with adjacent windows, and on the opposite side the opening was enlarged for a sliding door out to a small deck leading to the side yard. On the inside the fenestration is tied together with a continuous header and paneling, concealing new insulation over the brickwork.
