    VIII.              Of Sound

An example of a piece of music and an architecture demonstrates that music has its materiality in instruments and sound while architecture has its materiality in light and  space.

For instance in previous example the water is the overlapping refraction of space and the buildings are the representative of site.

                              Material * Sound = Material * Light

    Description: Material * Light

Sometimes dimensions of space is measured by sounds like echo and re-echo and psychic spaces can be created by something like church’s bells which create an space, but these spaces can NOT be created by electronics speakers.

Sounds are perceived by entire body. The change of phenomena in music also has been created after 20th century which has resulted in anger of traditional composers.

Architecture and music are two more similar arts rather than the other arts such as painting since these 2 are "closed" which means "surrounded" us.

    Description: Hypo-Bank

A case study in Munich [Hypo-Bank in Diss Files] was the 3 group of people within one area including residents, offices and the city-life. As Steven Holl noted they played a song by Stock Havsen  [Grubben], the song is formed by 7 measures, first ones are as mountain range and the rest (4 left) as voids.

The block itself is formed by 3 parts including:

    A. Glass mountain

    B. Apartments

    C. Shaped voids [open and green spaces]

The city form was masonry, offices and etc., two major case in this example are lights and perspectives. The sun light plays an orchestra within the voids.

About this Blog

As the world is developing its way of communication, we, the architects need to be more curious on stuff around us! Rise of different philosophies around the globe, rapid growth in our awareness, transformation of communication types and many more items around are leading the ARCHITECTURE to an absolute new brand of its roots! It is time to ask: are we, the TRANSFORMERS or are we the results of TRANSFORMATIONS of GENIUS LOCUS (the protective spirit of a place)?
