The Zero Cottage is a three story cottage in the back yard of David Baker's main home located in the Mission District of San Francisco. The ground floor is a fabrication shop while the second and third floors are an apartment. The project is topped off with a succulent garden and a canopy of solar PV cells. The term Zero Cottage comes from the fact that it uses net zero energy to maintain the cottage. The cottage is also extremely water efficient. So much so, that the cottage obtained a number of difficult certifications including LEED Platinum, Passivhaus Certification, and Living Building Challenge Net Zero Energy Certification.
