The Eco-Shade Pavilions

The Eco-Shade Pavilions

The Eco-Shade Pavilions are special functional art structures designed for private and/or public use. They are constructed from modular, prefabricated, sustainably grown wood components that are colored with eco-friendly paints. These wood components can be assembled together in many different ways in order to create pavilions of many different sizes and shapes. The curved wood support frames are made from laminated beams of two different radii, and are bolted together in different combinations in order to form complex organic shapes. These curved beams are clad with straight boards that are attached with even spaces left between each of the boards. Some of the curved board covered beams form seating on the interior of the space.

The canopy of curved slatted beams cast a complex pattern of ever changing shadows onto the space below when the sun is shining, and at the same time reduce the ambient air temperature for the occupants

. My hope is that these eco-friendly structures will become inspiring places for people to experience the beauty of complexity, and at the same time demonstrate how sustainably grown wood can be used to create exciting and functional organic forms. In addition, in light of global climate change, the Eco-Shade Pavilions were created in order to offer aesthetically pleasing places for people to retreat from the heat of the sun
