in America, we didn't pick up on soccer, robbie williams, or boba.
I'm afraid worldwide pop icons tend to play seventh fiddle in the US. I didnt know who that was either. But, she's a cutie. She's like my zeta jones lisa loeb. Can we get her on american idol?

That wiki article reads strangely when you're thinking she's in her 30s based on that picture and it talks about her growing up in Nazi-occupied Greece.

Nana Mourskouri was famous when I was like eight...
and she was already 30 years old.
I'm talking about the 70's people...

I find this just bizarre. None of my American studio-mates knew of her either. I really thought she was ubiquitous, but I guess not...

Well, maybe hop on some filesharing, or hit the music store, or check out some free clips: the album you want is Nana Mouskouri in New York: The Girl From Greece Sings. American standards done almost perfectly. The producer, Quincy Jones, remarked that it was one of the most amazing experiences of his career (liner notes).

Sure, she may have lost a bit of zing with age, but this pic, with the glasses, flow-ey hair, backlighting and sassy pose is just great. Pics in the liner notes from that album are great too...
