Summer 2015,
during the first viewing of the existing structure which was built in the 1990’s feelings flooded: abandoned, forgotten, left to rot, kind of haunting for rebirth?
Our clients purchased this brute with a requirement of 6 independent apartments for the Summer indulgence with a tempting allure?
Since last summer we covered a lot of sea traveling on countless occasions between the island of Pag to the island of Brač where the building stands. Although, both islands are within the Dalmatian coast of Croatia there are significant differences. The winter winds are not as strong therefore the vegetation is flourishing, different scent in the air, same minerals but in other quantities. Brač is emerald green were Pag is almost bare rock with the Moon looking down, down, down, down, down *…. another dream planet.
What to keep? What to demolish? What to add? What to subtract?
The existing was begging for a distinct gravity and more sunshine, thus simple analyses of the Sun movement from the very first rays to the last ones were carried out.
Wherefore the hunt for the Sun designed the spatial arrangements, new openings, terraces and a flamboyant jacuzzi hovering above all.
Brač is the third largest island in the Adriatic Sea, birthplace of the precious white stone, which quality is beyond any other stone on our planet, was used for the construction of many famous buildings and cities like the Palace of Roman Emperor Diocletian in Split, city of Trogir - ancient Tragurion, Canadian National Vimy Memorial in France, the Hofburg Palace in Vienna, Parliament Buildings in Budapest, the Governor’s Palace in Trieste and the White House in Washington, D.C.
Consequently the dressing and detailing to our project applies the use of the very stone with a craftsmanship and talent of local stone masons to make the most of what we have got. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38bf8cHO0pI
