“LOCATED IN THE HISTORIC CITY OF WUJIANG, AN ICONIC NEW TOWER WOULD BE A SYMBOL OF THE TRANSFORMATION INTO A GLOBAL CITY.” THE TOWER TAKES INTO ACCOUNT THE STRICT CHINESE DAYLIGHTING CODE BY BEING TRIANGULAR IN PLAN. THE EAST AND WEST FACADES SCREEN THE SUN WITH BOTH HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL LOUVERS, WHILE THE SOUTH FACADE UTILISES ANGULAR GLASS TO CREATE OVERHANGS. THE TAPERING SHAPE OF TOWER, WHICH RESPONDS TO THE LEASE SPAN OF THE DIFFERENT FUNCTIONS, CREATES AN ICONIC SHAPE OF A ‘SAIL’. THIS SHAPE IS QUITE APPROPRIATE DUE TO ITS LOCATION ON TAI LAKE (the largest lake in Eastern China). I WAS GIVEN THE RESPONSIBILITY OF MANAGING THE DESIGN TEAM, TO OVERSEE THEIR TASKS, AND TO EDUCATE THEM IN DIFFERENT AREAS OF DESIGN. I ALSO COORDINATED WITH THE STRUCTURAL AND MEP CONSULTANTS QUITE FREQUENTLY TO ENSURE A SEEMLESS INTEGRATION OF THESE SYSTEMS.
