THE REDESIGN FOR THE NEW WALDORF/ASTORIA HOTEL IN BEIJING IS A MODERN INTERPRETATION TO A TRADITIONAL ARCHETYPE. GRANDIOSE ARCHITECTURE IS A STAPLE OF THE WALDORF BRAND, AND THE CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE FORBIDDEN CITY HAS REINFORCED THIS. BRONZE, GLASS, AND A GRANITE RAINSCREEN WALL ADD THE LUXURIOUS QUALITY TO THE BUILDING WHICH THE CLIENT STRONGLY DESIRED. THE DESIGN OF THE BUILDING GIVES EACH ROOM IT’S OWN PROJECTING, GLASS CUBE; ESSENTIALLY EXTENDING THE ROOM OUTWARD. CULTURAL REFERENCES ARE SUBTLETY INCORPERATED WITH LARGE AND SMALL PATTERNS THROUGHOUT THE DESIGN; LIKE ON THE SCREENS WITHIN THE ROOM, OR AS A WHOLE CURTAIN WALL COMPOSITION. THIS PROJECT WAS THE FIRST AT ASGG ON WHICH I CONTRIBUTED SIGNIFICANTLY TO THE DESIGN AND DOCUMENTATION FROM START TO FINISH, WHILE ALSO PROVIDING STRONG LEADERSHIP TO THE OTHER MEMBERS OF THE TEAM.
