Occupying a unique site behind the historic Loew's Theater in Jersey City, the 808 Pavonia Avenue incorporates both residential and culture development to create a vibrant public space in the heart of the Journal Square neighborhood. Currently under utilized and in disrepair, the area behind the Loew's has the potential to bring life to both the Square and Theater by creating new retail, cultural attractions and public amenities, in addition to new residential development. The site is currently used as a shortcut for residents from the neighborhood to the PATH train, so the project focuses on maintaining and enhancing the public path by creating a tree lined esplanade and small public spares. The project also proposes five structures along the public path with a mix of retail, residential and cultural programming, such as a black box theater and art gallery. 808 Pavonia Avenue plans to revitalize the area and support both new and historic cultural institutions in Journal Square.
