Woodshop, Laminating

  • Wood quilt: I designed the series of laminated wood lengths and their connecting pieces so that, when crosscut and laid out as shown, the wood selection and [dowel etc] design would emphasize the larger diagonal pattern.
  • Sculpted Tower: Using the remaining laminated stock, I made a series of curving cuts on the bandsaw along the length of the piece. I varied both the table angle and the amount of curvature of each cut, then reoriented and recombined the resulting pieces to create a sculptural tower. This has the benefit of allowing a better view of the qualities of the wood itself, as well as distorting the initial pattern in more engaging and compelling ways.
