Trained at the Pratt Institute School of Architecture, I have 16+ years in the field, with published, award-winning built work spanning Singapore, New York & Miami – having had the good fortune of working alongside talented principals, across the world.
I began without a degree as an architectural apprentice, after a year in engineering school, and another in architectural school. My first two projects were completed in Singapore, prior to finishing my training at Pratt Institute, and I am proud to be able to say both were published & won awards, my role as an apprentice notwithstanding. The majority of my professional experience is hospitality & multi-family residential based – with both core+shell/ground up new build, as well as renovations and historic preservation. I am thoroughly conversant in all stages of the architectural process from inception through permitting, construction to completion. I consider myself highly effective in both team lead and team member roles, having served in both positions on numerous projects over the course of my career.
My “coming of age” project on which I spent five years in Miami on is the Soho Beach House – an 80,000 SF, US$50M hotel development, comprising of the complete restoration of a 7-story, 65-year old Art Deco Hotel on Miami Beach, with the addition of a new 16-story tower spliced into the historic structure. Open in October 2010 and winner of multiple AIA awards, it remains one of the exclusive hotels on Miami Beach.
Through the course of my career, I’ve amassed thorough conversance in Building, Life Safety & Accessibility Codes at both Federal and State levels. With over 10 years of hospitality experience from core+shell, through interior architecture & interior design, 6+ years in New York City residential and hospitality development has imparted me with an understanding of the complex convergence of the requirements of NYC Zoning, LPC, and HPD guidelines. I’ve successfully navigated several projects through the approvals process at the NYC HUB, and successfully completed CA for a mid-rise residential development in the Upper East Side.
My last position was with the world-renown interior design firm Alexandra Champalimaud Design with ultra-high end luxury residential & hospitality interiors from New York & Atlanta to Hong Kong.
My resume and selected work portfolio covering selected projects from 1994 through 2016 will speak further to my experience. References are available upon request.
I would welcome a chance to meet should the opportunity arise, and show you my full portfolios, with any positions in mind, as they may exist in your firm.
Respectfully,
t s y o n g
