Now in its sixth year, the International Highrise Award 2014 went to Bosco Verticale in Milan, Italy by Boeri Studio (Stefano Boeri Architetti and Barreca & La Varra) with developer Hines Italia SGR. The biennial award recognizes high-rise towers around the world that are considered to best combine exterior + interior, sustainable, and social aspects. The international jury choosing an architect to design a new National Gallery, which will also provide a new home for the Ludwig Museu in the Hungarian capital, has invited seven leading practices to take part in a new competition after a first competition did not produce a winning design. The director of the Museo Reina Sofía, Manuel Borja-Villel, has just announced that Madrid’s main Modern and contemporary art museum will expand its permanent exhibition space by a total of 3,000 sq. m by the end of 2015. The Fondation Cartier, the Paris-based contemporary art foundation, has abandoned plans to relocate from its central Paris premises [...].
In 2011, the president and founder of the Fondation Cartier, Alain Dominique Perrin, asked the French architect Jean Nouvel, to draw up preliminary plans for a new base on Ile Seguin. But Perrin tells The Art Newspaper that he has decided to enlarge the Fondation’s current premises in Boulevard Raspail, and will commission Nouvel to work on the expansion.
