At first glimpse, the House of Mirrors looks like a misplaced stack of wiry boxes randomly cast away along the Australian coast. Some great-looking projects in Australia were announced as the winners of the 2014 National Architecture Awards on November 6 at the Darwin Convention Centre. Organized by the Australian Institute of Architects, this year's results were geared toward community-based projects. Melbourne is now a more expensive place to live than New York. The increasing cost of living, and in particular, the cost of housing risks seriously undermining the city’s liveability.

The Economic Intelligence Unit (EIU) claims its annual Liveability Survey could be used to "assign a hardship allowance as part of expatriate relocation packages," among other things.
