The skyline of Taiyuan, the capital and largest city of North China's Shanxi province, is scheduled to receive a 280-meter / 919-foot addition soon: German firm HENN has won the architectural competition to design the new Cenke Group tower sporting a slick convex shell. The annual Dutch Design Awards announced its 2013 winners last weekend in the three main categories of Spatial, Communication and Product. This year's award winner in the category Spatial - Best Exterior is BiermanHenket Architecten's Extension of the Museum De Fundatie in Zwolle, NL. After winning first prize in a 2009 international competition, Henning Larsen Architects' Kolding Campus building for the University of Southern Denmark is full of sustainable features. "Vu'òn - The Garden" by Swiss firm Bureau A is a temporary installation for the Tadioto, a gallery/bar/cafe/event space that Duc Nguyen Qui — a Vietnamese American journalist, writer, and artist — created for the blossoming creative community in Hanoi, Vietnam. Allford Hall Monaghan Morris (AHMM) won the RIBA competition to design the new London Police Headquarters, as announced by the Mayor of London, the Metropolitan Police Commissioner, and RIBA on Oct. 14. This is one of the latest big-time projects for the UK-based firm, who is also working on the redevelopment of the BBC television center and was recently named the architect for Google's UK headquarters. — bustler.net

Spanish architects Antonio Cruz and Antonio Ortiz of Cruz y Ortiz Arquitectos have been presented the Abe Bonnema Architecture Award for their outstanding renovation of Amsterdam's historic Rijksmuseum. The prestigious Dutch award is granted biannually to an architect that designed a building of 'remarkable high quality architecture.'
