Chicago would be turned into a Midwest version of Paris — La Ville Lumiere, the City of Light — under a mayoral plan showcased Wednesday to boost tourism by spotlighting the city’s architectural wonders. [...]

Commercial real estate firm Cushman & Wakefield led the consortium that won first prize in the recently concluded Park Russia competition. The international consortium included Buro Happold, Populous, and Gillespies -- who led the masterplanning design team.
The Russia Geographic Society and Moscow Region Government hosted the contest to find the most suitable architectural design and financial models for the "Russia"-themed 1,600 ha. Park in the Moscow region.

Designing the new Island School in Hong Kong is the latest competition win for schmidt hammer lassen architects. Project client English Schools Foundation selected the Danish firm and Hong Kong-based Thomas Chow Architects as the winning team to build a new 28,000-sq.meter learning facility for the school's estimated 1,200 students. — bustler.net

With the help of young UK architects, London housing association Peabody is already looking to the future of social housing with their "Small Projects Panel" competition launched this past November.
Peabody recently announced 20 shortlisted proposals that have advanced to the last stage. Each team will be interviewed before the jury picks 6-8 firms by the end of January. The winning firms will help Peabody develop new housing schemes that have a maximum of 20 homes.

"Inverse Boulevard" by Kawahara Krause Architects is our first entry from Europan 12 Germany for the Mannheim competition site.
The Hamburg-based firm received a Special Mention for their proposal, which is based on creating a boulevard that will better connect Mannheim's north and south areas -- and retain their distinct personalities.

From a total of 500 submissions, the AIA selected 26 recipients around the globe to receive the 2014 Institute Honor Awards for excellency in architecture, interior architecture, and regional & urban design.
Three separate juries selected the recipients for each category. The recipients will be honored at the AIA 2014 National Convention and Design Exposition in Chicago in June.

After submitting "En Pointe" to the Europan 12 Austria competition, The Open Workshop + Lorena Del Rio Architects team placed as a Runner-Up in a three-way tie for the Kagran site (In other words, a "Winner" title wasn't given.)
"En Pointe" uses the arcade concept and hybrid, multi-functional spaces to improve Kagran's connectivity and potentially enhance the city at an architectural and urban level.
