I just received word earlier this morning that Raimund Abraham, longtime professor at Cooper Union and one of my studio instructors at SCI_Arc passed away early this morning after giving a lecture at SCI_Arc last night. He was an amazing teacher and will be missed.
There will be a memorial service at SCI_Arc at 1pm on Friday 3/5/2010 in the main space.

SCI-Arc said he died in a car accident. What a terrible, terrible shame.
I hope it wasn't caused by drinking after the lecture, and that it was an isolated incident. Nevertheless...
I was at the lecture last night, it was and he was inspiring. Unwavering in his beliefs...his last line of the night was to remind us that we don't have to be groupies of celebrity architects or work at large corporate offices, that we should do what it is we want in our work and that all you need to be an 'architect' is a piece of paper, a pencil an idea and an imagination.
RIP
I knew Raimund for over a quarter-century, and he was forever young. For years now we would eat our morning breakfasts at nearby tables in the NoHo Star restaurant in Manhattan, each of us poring over our New York Times. It is hard for me to imagine not seeing him in the neighborhood anymore.
