This is a complete fluff piece. Any home 20 years old will have settled. If you go into 100 year old homes you will see how out of plumb and square they have become. This story is akin to waking up one day with a sore knee and denying you might be getting old and instead blaming it on a conspiracy.
The NYT has officially lost it.
"Compounding the problem is that, during the recent housing boom in the United States, houses were built in areas where the soil was particularly prone to shift."
That's probably all they needed to say. I mean, this is at the other extreme from those people who claim that since it snowed so much during this winter, global warming doesn't exist.
