Portland-based Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Architects are researching rooftop wind farms. In their recent project, The Twelve West Building, the four wind turbines produce only enough energy for 1% of the building's energy needs. The architects are hopeful that their research will lead to efficient urban wind-generated power.

only 1% of the energy, what was the cost? I'm not a fan of placing turbines on buildings as there are other more efficient and cost effective methods of generating energy.
See my thread:
building integrated wind turbines
&
the definative study to date is available from Energy Research Unit Rutherford Appleton Laboratory Science & Technology Facilities Council & here(note that they were studying ducted wind turbines)...
They do look pretty spinning away up there, though, don't they?
This raises a personal inquiry: I've been thinking about how Blade Runner created this vision of the future city. Has there yet been a movie or montage made that similarly imagines/envisions a "green" city in the same way? One where everything is efficient and airy, every drop of rain is harvested, plants clean the air, the vehicles are emissionless, and turbines spin like mad?
