This is the thing about creativity that is rarely acknowledged: Most people don’t actually like it. Studies confirm what many creative people have suspected all along: People are biased against creative thinking, despite all of their insistence otherwise.
“We think of creative people in a heroic manner, and we celebrate them, but the thing we celebrate is the after-effect,” says Barry Staw, a researcher at the University of California–Berkeley business school who specializes in creativity.

Well, duh. Bosses value productivity. Nice predictable, profitable, productivity. They often have enough trouble getting their own creative impulses under control and don't need to be dealing with that shit from the drones too.
Where I work, speed is the only thing they value - I am a Revit wrist - it's how fast I can bust stuff out - speedy Bim Drone
Actually where i work, becuase there has been a culture of productivity and "drones", they do value creative thought, but then again, it has to rapid-fire creativity
Clients as well, They always need everything done yesterday. And everything always costs more than they want to spend.
may be being productive and practical is next!! if its not helping out economy, ecology and environment..its not the next!! I also agree about the out of the box thinking..not every time out of the box required unless its helping the way traditionally it used to be..
thank you for post!!
If there isn't the time to be creative, you can take it home and be creative there. Now you should be paid for all the work you do, but as many know, creativity doesn't work like production, so all the more reason to ponder at home. In the mean time, you need to practice creativity whenever you can. Use it or loose it.
On the other hand, this whole "working outside the box"=creativity is a bit of blarney. Yes, sometimes flipping the rules gives you a fresh perspective, like studying a composition in reverse, but creatively working within a box shouldn't be underestimated. Sometimes, not having the freedom to start from scratch leads to even more ingenious solutions.
