"designed by famed architect Zaha Hadid whose signature style appears to be making some of the world's most f**kable buildings...like Georgia O'Keeffe of things you can walk inside...i guess maybe it is time things evened out a bit" - Jon Stewart — Daily Show
Last night on The Daily Show, they offered a critique of Qatar's recently released plans for the Al Wakrah 2022 FIFA World Cup Stadium, designed by Zaha Hadid Architects. The show goes on to label the proposal one of the world's most f**kable soccer stadiums. Also while reporting in, on assignment Al Madrigal is unable to find the "press box".

It does look like a certain part of the female anatomy... beautiful nonetheless.
Or Brendan, beautiful because of it?
Daily Show's bit on it was perfect. I also enjoyed Jezebel writer Callie Beusman's take on it: "Seriously, though: why criticize? Every city's skyline looks like a row of shadowy phalli glinting in the urban smog. I think it's about time we pay some architectural respect to the yoni. Everyone in the world could benefit from seeing more vagina-shaped things…"
The Jezebel thread is full of zingers, including the proposal that we refer to it as the World Diva Cup. Which is a reference some of you might not get. google it. Everyone could benefit from seeing more vagina-shaped things.
@Donna re: "Everyone in the world could benefit from seeing more vagina-shaped things…" not sure i can exactly imagine that world..
That being said the gender equity argument in terms of architectural skyline and it's sexual iconography is something i support totally.
Think of it as a comparison of social comfort level. When someone points out that an object such as a building looks like a penis, everyone laughs and continues as normal. Point out that an object looks like a vagina, or vulva, or even use the word vessica, and people get squicky and uncomfortable.
We need to get to an equivalent comfort level with both notions.
A hilarious clip from Jon Stewart!
And I like that Zaha's work symbolizes a balance to the 'old boy' downtown highrise 'network.' I completely support that.
BUT Zaha's work says little, if anything, about context. Insert blob 'big project' here at site X and call it innovative?
Yeah, I don't think the project is actually good architecture, especially from an urbanism standpoint. But I love the notion of the staff at Daily Show googling "vagina building" and saying "Hey, another one by this Zaha person! And another one!".
Unless you're a sexist, how is a a vagina shaped building any more fuckable that a phallic shaped one? Or is it consensus that only those with penises (men) can really "fuck"?
Frankly, I'm waiting for the architect who specializes in building shaped like sheep anus. Or is the design softare technology just not there yet?
Sorry, Walmart's already got the monopoly on sheep anus.
That's not a building. Sign fucking is still taboo, you perv.
I think there is a plug-in that dove tails (no pun intended) onto Revit that will let you design sheep anusic forms... a bit price though, from what I'm hearing.
"BUT Zaha's work says little, if anything, about context."
What does a phallic skyscraper say about context other than "Hey, we got the extruded shape from the street grid."?
And while we're on the topic, with the revolution that is occurring in the build industry though the use of BIM and the like, where the hell are all the buildings that look like they are having sex with one another....oohh, that would be HOT!
I'm patenting that idea as we speak via Legalzoom! So back off all you architects that jack other ppls ideas... yeah, you know who you are.
Oh man it feels good to know that I will be the next starchitect!
Can anyone say scaper orgy?!
"jack other ppls ideas"
Pun intended, I hope.
The beige interior of that auditorium shown to the left of Jon Stewart looks like one what you see in one of those dreams you had as a kid that you were stuck inside of a whale's digestive tract. I forgot if that was a cartoon, a story, or a Disney movie. I always remember waking up startled, though.
How do you know about my childhood nightmares? Freddy?
That, and all the kids turning to jackasses for smoking and drinking were the only things that stuck with me from Pinocchio.
This thread sent me on an interesting thought-train that ended with airplanes flying into Zaha skyscrapers.
I always thought Alsop's addition looked to be banging the old OCAD building with its big red (stair) shaft.
I'd post a picture but Archinect and my ipad do not get along (this message has taken me 10 minutes already...)
If I remember correctly, Alsop quit building buildings that are having sex with themselves, to go on to painting penises.... only realizing later that he was better at making buildings look like they were doing the horizontal polka.
I guess abstract penis art doesn't hold its value like it did back in architecture's heyday... what century was Greece established as an empire?
I like Georgia O'keeffe´s paintings. and I like that stadium. I especially like that it was rendered in a purpulish/pinkish colour. I do not find it offensive that it looks like female anatomy. How many skyscrapers look phallic?
A few things to note it was rendered without the masterplan and nobody would see that stadium from above unless you are in a helicopter. Looks like it would have an elegant entrace. Its a shame ZHA did not realease the renderings from the ground view, from that point it does not look like vag. and makes quite a nice canteliver when entering upon the stadium.

I love the shape no matter what it look like , it looks sexy, and i am sick of hard happed buildings
That's not a building. Sign fucking is still taboo, you perv.
For a second there I could've sworn I was on the Old Archinect.
hey Apurimac, does your name come from the river of Peru?
It gives new dimensions to the expression 'fuck parametricism!'
Thayer should be happy now. This is a building that many men and indeed women can indeed desire, literally, on a very tangible level.
and i so don't like jon steward. and strictly comedians should not be paid for what they do! it becomes professional thereafter. do you think a professional joke is funny?
you of course got the tit for the tat? or for the twat rather
the way he parts his hair looks like the stadium, does it mean that the top of his head looks like ...that other thing...?
