Panicky cost-cutting measures during construction left out elements that would have made the exterior and lobby more dazzling and the hall more flexible. The Music Center, which maintains the hall, seems in danger of taking the venue for granted, not eager to invest in it when it can bask in glory by doing nothing. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is planning a subway line under the hall, raising concerns that train vibrations will spoil the sound. — latimes.com

Interesting. After 10 years? So, it's an example of form over substance.
Build that line of the subway. It will be more useful to more people than this hopefully "once only" oddity in L.A.'s otherwise geometrically taut CBD buildings. (Sydney's Opera House would be considered geometrically taut). Plus, the buffering of noise and vibration could possibly be mitigated at some outer layer of the excavation or underground vault, rather than in the auditorium itself. I'm sort of thing of "sound batts" installed in wall cavities, but not specifically in wall cavities and on a much grander scale, befitting the "grandness" of what's above at street level.
I wonder if the crowd who goes to a concert or performance would even used the subway to get there. I see them availing themselves of valet service.
I dont know, I ve seen many "Regular" people there at concerts, yours truly included.
I am also sure that the sound concerns could be alleviated...
so youre an elitist sameolddoctor? how disappointing!
