Fred Bernstein examines some of the recent and upcoming work of the firm Adrian Smith & Gordon Gill Architecture, which has made a specialty of designing “supertall” buildings, many of them in the UAE. Although the firm tries to incorporate as many "green" features as possible, the writer points out that there is very little inherently green about building a "supertall" skyscraper in the middle of a desert.
