(The Guardian's) Kevin Rushby gets a sneak preview of the (Tschumi-designed) £100 million museum in Athens that aims to reunite the Parthenon marbles. Watch
so far i love tschumi's museum. for a couple of reasons:
1. i don't understand it. nothing i've seen gives me what i feel is a complete sense of the place. it seems like one of those places you have to go visit to comprehend.
2. it seems simple - almost mute. it's doing the job of housing the artifacts and giving view to the acropolis admirably but is otherwise just a field of round quiet columns.
the display of the frieze seen in this video is simple. seems obvious, but i bet it took a lot of thinking to get to that 'obvious' answer.
this is the kind of work to which i aspire.
