This morning at around 8 am, a crane collapsed in Manhattan's upper east side neighborhood, leaving at least two dead and others critically injured. This as the city is still recovering from a collapse in March that killed 7 and led to the resignation of the the head of the department of buildings.

very sad.
the city admin has no scapegoat this time. it's a shame that the previous collapse and other issues resulted in the resignation of Patricia Lancaster. she was doing good work...
This is outrageous...they be required to have a licensed engineer sign off on cranes and scaffolding on a daily basis.
Apparently the initial report of two fatalities is incorrect; one is confirmed dead and two others seriously injured.
here is a depressing look at nyc construction incidents in the last few years.
Why does this get so much publicity??
More die in iraq every few minutes
because its ridiculous that such a thing should ever happen in today's construction industry, let alone twice in 6 months.
imagine if you multiplied those stats through every major metropolitan area the size of the upper east side...it would be outrageous in property destruction alone.
