Forget the rocket attacks, concrete blast walls and lack of a sewer system. Now try to imagine luxury hotels, condos, and a shopping center called, 'International Village at US Embassy' in the heart of Baghdad. yahoo/AP
This is so incredibly stupid. I am amazed at how narrow minded these developers are to the socio-cultural and historic context that already exists in that area. To simply come in and impose a development without even the slightest sensitivity on how this will impact the quality of life for the local populace is both arrogant and idiotic.
The video clip interview made me sick. No wonder there is very little endearing about American foreign policy and their involvement in other cultures.
"Well, you live here in Southern California and there’s drive-bys and everything else. So there’s danger everywhere, and I think the key thing is this will be tremendous for Baghdad."
