The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden on Wednesday finally abandoned its long-planned project to cover the museum’s interior courtyard in Washington D.C. with a distinctive, temporary inflatable bubble.
Citing financial uncertainties, Richard Kurin, the Smithsonian Institution’s under secretary for history, art and culture, made the announcement. He said outgoing director Richard Koshalek, who resigned last month after failing to receive full support for the bubble...

That is a great picture of a bubble bursting
they peaked at the high line.
all downhill now
There are a lot of firms that seam to have hit their high mark. Wondering where the next wave of projects will come from?
Good grief, your, that's ridiculous. These are smart designers in top form, still weaving fantasies that either make it or come *this* close to reality.
Like all designers tend to be, they're likely already on to the next challenge. (In this case: keeping moma happy while - hopefully - rescuing the folk art museum?)
Ditto what Steven said. Every firm loses a big project they rillyrillyrilly wanted from time to time. It's sad for DSR but it's hardly reason to write an obituary for them.
Museums are maybe going to be spending less on fantastical projects. Which is also sad but hardly the end of architecture.
It's going to be very hard to top the high line, within the allotted timeframe
DS: 1979-2004ish
DS+R: 2004-2014
D+R: 2014-2020
R: :(
It's always bugged me that everyone gives DS+R sole credit for the High Line when actually it is a Field Operations design project. DS+R was a collaborator.
exactly! James Corner is a much more important designer imo. He is one of the very few designers that is really tackling 21st century issues.
BTW...."Taking Measures across the American Landscape" is a fantastic little book...No babble, No BS, Right to the Point!
I believe digitizing the field was DS+R's idea.
Watching cars while doing nothing and other architectural features, were as well
That is why field operations doesn't get as much credit.
