It's known as Eleven Eleven, and it has changed people’s perception about what a utilitarian structure can be; and has ignited conversations worldwide about its design and use. This garage has reshaped the urban fabric of the city and people are going there to get married, relax, and enjoy a cocktail. — vimeo.com

FRaC that's the best post you've ever made right there. Perfect.
"People ask me...how much is it going to cost, how big is this, and how much square footage is it. And I thought to myself, 'Well, its almost irrelevant. Our building is really about the value of the idea...'"
*Cough* *Cough* Bullshit *Cough*
Really, mfischer? You don't think architects can or should sell ideas, or promote design as having value?
Well, I admit I was half joking when I wrote that. It does have awesome design intent, and certainly bringing public event space and new thinking into a really drab program like a parking garage (beyond facade design) is a really cool aspect of this project.
Never the less, Robert Wennett and his team wouldn't have gone forward with this design if they didn't find it economically feasible. A parking garage can't be an event space, art exhibition space, or accommodate flexible program every hour of every day. It's primary function is still to be generating revenue, and incorporating functions on top of this is icing on the cake.
I only laugh because haven't we all heard the jargon about ideas and design being the drivers of all these big projects, when most of the time, the exact things he's saying are irrelevant were honest and certainly driving questions behind picking the parking structure typology in the first place. I also wonder about its relationship to the adjacent office building on the block...if they're managed or were built by the same company, or if there's another business relationship we're missing

Nothing says classy like getting married in a parking garage.
Nice sculpture under the stairs.
