The architecture and design firm ADD Inc Miami has been awarded a “Merit Award of Excellence for Renovation & Additions” in the American Institute of Architects’ (AIA) 2012 Florida/Caribbean Honor & Design Competition for the renovation of the historic Shelborne South Beach Hotel. The award was presented during the recent AIA Florida Annual Convention at the Breakers Palm Beach.
The AIA Florida/Caribbean Honor & Design Awards Program is Florida’s most prestigious award program for the architecture industry and recognizes both great design and outstanding individuals who contribute to the advancement of the profession.
Located in the heart of Miami Beach, the Shelborne South Beach is a mid-twentieth century architectural landmark originally designed by Igor Polevitzky in the 1940's and expanded upon by Morris Lapidus in the 1950's. ADD Inc Miami has restored the hotel's distinctive exterior and reimagined its interior as a chic and contemporary hotel. The renovation preserves, enhances, and reinterprets this storied property through the lens of 21st century design to ensure its continued status among South Beach's exclusive collection of boutique hotels.
