Bill Feeney's sons, Aidan, 6, and Griffin, 9, play in their attic, specifically designed for them to run free. There is a ping-pong table, a climbing wall and a stereo. A rubber floor cushions and quiets all that activity.
by the way, my "dad of the year" comment should be taken lightly. that place he built looks like a dream space for his kids. being a dad myself, i am well aware of the fact that spoiling one's children with material items doesn't make a good parent.
i'll bet you the $100,000 that his reno cost, however, that he built this with the intention of using the space to play with his kids... and that's proabaly a good indication that he is a great dad.
"attic" is a little bit of a misnomer too. its a "playloft" not an attic. the thing has 10'+ fucking ceilings! what kind of attic has ceilings that high?
What about this, grammar police: the attic has a "nine-plus-foot" ceiling height. Shouldn't that be "nine-foot-plus"?
The nice thing about a separate playroom too is it let's the bedrooms be more focused on quiet activity i.e. sleep which all parents know is like gold.
"Still under construction are the railings for the wide-plank mahogany steps."
is this a newspaper quotable for 'i don't want more than these cool minimal posts, but i have to say i'm doing more for the code officials'? looks less safe than having no rail.
