Rem Koolhaas presented last week final changes to the Palacio Del Sur in Córdoba, Spain, OMA's first project in that country. The convention hall with three auditoriums will be the most important work for Córdoba since the Great Mosque. Construction could begin in summer. any pics?
no images as of yet that I know of, though you might want to trowel the forums at skyscrapercity.com and do let us know if you see anything. I'm not sure, but the original schematics for this project might be published somewhere. the comp was in 2001. Arquitectura Viva maybe.
check out -if you have acces to it- the spanish magazine Pasajes de Arquitectura, #30 (October 2001)... plans, models, and the review of Rem's appearance in the Real Alcázares of Córdoba -together with the other finalists (Cruz y Ortiz, Zaha, Toyo Ito & Moneo) whose projects are also reviewed-, the day they all presented their projects, and his Remness (who, apparently acted and responded to the jury's questions like an inflamated diva) was designated as the winning one..
the project its basically a long caterpillar with a linearly distributed program (TLC) hierarchized depending on the uses ((T)ourists, (C)ongressists & (L)ocals)...
frankly, it's pretty dull and monotonous, either in an aesthetic and programatic way...
Moneo's was a (literal) blob re-interpretation of the Alhambra, Toyo Ito's was a long bar with a blobby tower, Zaha's was ... just Zaha -- impossible angles and a reworking of the original topography shaped in an eight number -a sort of Moebuis strip-, and Cruz y Ortiz was the most serene and auster project, a long and anonymous big box with typical big patios...
I'd have choosen either Moneo's or Toyo Ito's projects... then Rem, then Zaha, then Cruz y Ortiz.
Here you have all the projects..
yeah, this looks like one of koolhaas's most boring projects to date. But they usually end up cool, due to the unique organization of OMA.
