Following last week’s look at an opening for a Junior Video Editor-Producer at KPF, we are using this week’s edition of our Job Highlights series to explore an opportunity on Archinect Jobs for a Landscape Designer at Balmori Associates.
The role, based in New York City, calls for an individual to join a practice “recognized worldwide for its creative interfacing of landscape and architecture.” Among the responsibilities for the role are conducting “thorough research on site conditions, historical context, local ecology, and zoning regulations,” and developing design proposals incorporating sustainable materials, technologies, and living species.
Why the role interests us
The open role for a landscape designer at Balmori Associates offers us the opportunity to reflect back on the many landscape architecture-related projects and developments recently featured in our editorial. In August, we covered a rippling landscape by Shma added to a Neri&Hu-designed hotel in Zhengzhou, China, in addition to a survey from the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) that 20% of landscape architects expect to see greenhouse gas emissions budgets in future projects.
Additional notable landscape architecture projects recently advanced through the design and construction stage include Reed Hilderbrand’s plans for a $22 million sculpture park at Louisville’s Speed Art Museum, Hargreaves Jones’ $82 million park space beneath LA’s Sixth Street Viaduct, and Sasaki Associates’ proposal for the largest public park in Athens, Greece.
Where August saw a series of high-profile landscape projects featured in our editorial, September’s coverage of the field includes several awards and scholarships by the ASLA. Most notably, the ASLA announced thirty-four projects as winners of the 2023 Professional Awards, in addition to 30 winning projects from the 2023 Student Awards. Also in September, the body selected ten women as 2023-2025 Women of Color Licensure Advancement Program recipients.
