Following last week’s look at an opening for a Facilities Accessibility planner at Yale University, we are using this week’s edition of our Job Highlights series to explore an opportunity on Archinect Jobs for a Junior Video Editor-Producer at KPF.
The role, based in New York, calls for an individual who will “assist and support the creation of videos, from production to post-production, with the aim of telling the stories of the projects, process, and people of KPF.” The position is open to recent graduates, or those with 1–2 years of experience in a relevant field.
Why the role interests us
The latest role at KPF offers us the opportunity to reflect on Archinect’s recent coverage of the intersection between video, film, and architecture. In April, we took a closer look at a stunning Nordic hotel that played a prominent role in an episode of the hit HBO series Succession. In the same month, we highlighted a new documentary by Rava Films centering on Thomas Phifer’s Richard Serra sculpture pavilion at the Glenstone Museum.
2023 also saw our editorial feature a short film by the designer and director Joshua A. Dawson, in which Dawson strikes a cautionary note on the confluences of climate change, architecture, and capitalism. Meanwhile, our Archinect In-Depth: Artificial Intelligence series featured an interview with the architect and director Liam Young, who described film and storytelling as being his method for “being in the room” while new technologies are being developed.
“We are all literate in stories: from childhood, we fall asleep to stories or in the pages of a novel, while on Friday nights we find ourselves in front of a TV or flickering movie screen,” Young told us. “Stories can become vessels for ideas in a way that architectural drawings sometimes are not. That’s part of why I am here in Los Angeles: making my own work, telling my own stories, building worlds, and designing for the entertainment industry. I treat stories and pop culture with the same rigor that an architect might treat a project, encoding stories with critical ideas about how technology is changing our lives.”
