Following our previous look at an opening for a Director of Miami Operations at BMA Architects, we are using this week’s edition of our Job Highlights series to explore an open role on Archinect Jobs for an Architectural Senior Project Coordinator - Aviation/Airport Sector at The Beck Group.
The role, based in Tampa, FL, calls for an individual to coordinate the firm’s aviation projects. Among the responsibilities are to provide oversight for the design team, assist in construction administration, and understand and apply zoning/building codes/accessibility requirements. Requirements for the role include 5-7 years of project experience, a NAAB accredited degree, and experience in a range of software including Revit and Adobe Creative Suite.
Why the role interests us
The emphasis on aviation in The Beck Group’s latest open role offers us the opportunity to review some of the recent developments in the sector to appear in our editorial. Last week, we covered the construction of ZGF’s Portland airport expansion, which is seeing a major timber roof constructed piece-by-piece on the airport grounds before being moved into place at the new terminal. Meanwhile, the FAA recently selected PAU to deliver new air-traffic control tower prototypes with an emphasis on sustainability.
In April, Foster + Partners unveiled a vertiport terminal concept for Dubai to accommodate electric vertical take-off and landing craft, while in March, AECOM was picked for a project management consultancy role for the NEOM International Airport in Saudi Arabia.
The successful candidate will also join a company that, in 2018, engaged with Uber on a ‘Skyport’ concept for futuristic flying taxi services. The Beck Group were one of six companies to be chosen by Uber in their call for proposals, which asked for facilities that could hands 4,000 passengers an hour within a three-acre footprint, provide charging spots for all the eVTOL (Vertical Take-off and Landing) aircraft, and minimize environmental impact on adjacent neighborhoods.
Uber’s vision for flying cars was also backed by Hyundai in 2021, whose Europe chief predicted that flying cars will exist in cities by 2030.
