"From building materials to community connections, theoretical frameworks to programmatic uses, structural components to project teams, the notion of assembly is at the core of architecture," the school shares. "It is through these broadly defined yet interconnected assemblies that we construct our built environment. As we navigate new ways of convening and interacting with one another following the easing of lockdowns, the 2021–22 Forum Lecture Series turns to these many processes of architectural assembly and re-assembly."
Over the course of six lectures, invited speakers will aid in examining "the notion of re-assembly from several vantage points, framed relative to public spaces, social institutions, and places of domesticity. They will take into consideration larger demographic changes, economic influences, and climate imperatives, explaining trends across both large and small communities."
Dr. Nik Luka (McGill University), Dr. Valerie Preston (York University), and Jeff Leiper kicked off the school's lecture series to discuss "Demographic Re-Assembly" on September 20th. On October 19th, the school welcomed esteemed landscape architect and academic Walter Hood to discuss "Public Space Re-Assembly."
For the month of November, the school hosts Felecia Davis (Felecia Davis Studio, Penn State University, and Dir. of SOFTLAB@PSU) to discuss "Re-Assembling Practice" on the 22nd.
In 2022, the school welcomes RDH Architects and gh3* Architects to discuss "Re-Assembling Institutions & Infrastructure" on January 17th. Toronto-based architecture studio PARTISANS and Mary Rowe (Urbanist and Civic Entrepreneur) will discuss "Re-Assembling Small-Town Urbanism" on February 7th. Closing the lecture series is Michael Green Architecture discussing "Re-Assembling Fabrication" on March 14th.
