A group of contested supertall residential towers designed a collection of architecture firms, including SHoP Architects, Handel, and Perkins Eastman for sites in the Two Bridges neighborhood of Manhattan will be allowed to proceed as initially approved following a legal victory over challenges to the project by municipal authorities.
A recent ruling from the New York State Supreme Court found that approvals for the project were "rationally based in the record and not contrary to law," despite claims from Manhattan Borough president Gale A. Brewer and the New York City Council to the contrary. The decision allows developers JDS Development Group, CIM Group, L+M Development Partners, and Starrett Corporation to proceed with the four towers, which will sprout adjacent to the recently completed 72-story One Manhattan Square complex designed by Adamson Associates in an area largely devoid of tall skyscrapers.
The forthcoming towers are set to bring 2,700 residential units to the area, including 690 affordable housing units. Additionally, the projects are set to bring $15 million in parks improvements, $12.5 million in upgrades to nearby public housing communities, and $40 million in repairs for a local subway station, New York YIMBY reports.
A final timeline for completion of the three projects that make up the four-tower cluster is forthcoming.
Editor's Note: A previous version of the story incorrectly credited SHoP Architects as the architects for all four towers; SHoP is only is the architect of the project purued by JDS Development, while Handel designed CIM/L+M project, and Perkins Eastman designed the project led by Starrett Corporation.

I trust in SHoP to do a good job, but I don't trust the opacity of these renderings.... that section of manhattan is gonna be super weird: decrepit public housing directly next to luxury glass towers.
Article is inaccurate. The developers are NOT allowed to proceed. There are still 3 lawsuits pending and an injunction blocking these proposed megatowers.
