The London School of Architecture (LSA) has unveiled its latest edition of Citizen Magazine, the school's new quarterly publication. The magazine, created "for everybody engaged in the challenge of creating the future city" aims to inspire and promote the work of people "designing innovative proposals to bring about real improvements to the city," according to a statement.
The most recent edition includes an essay exploring the "occupation and reappropriation of London’s streets" through mass movements like this year's Extinction Rebellion climate collapse protests; an interview between British anthropologist Henrietta L Moore and architectural and urban theorist Richard Sennett; an essay urging a new approach for designing British mosques; a discussion of the changing nature of queer culture and urbanism, and a series of interviews with new and rising talent on the London architecture scene, among many other contributions and thoughtful work samples.
The publication is organized by a group of professional editors and journalists and includes contributions from students and staff at LSA. Will Hunter, former executive editor at The Architectural Review and the current director of LSA, is also a co-founder for the publication. Citizen Magazine's editor-in-chief is Isabela Allen, a former editor for Architects’ Journal and current creative director for the London pavilion at the Seoul Biennale 2019. The publication's creative director is Simon Esterson, who is also the art director for Eye magazine, which bills itself as the "world’s most beautiful and collectable graphic design journal."
The publication is available for purchase on the Citizen Magazine website.
