In 2019, inclusive spaces that are comprised of voices from the neurodiverse and disabled community are still extremely rare. Despite the enactment of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) 29 years ago, neurodiverse and disabled communities continue to face collective discrimination from failures to accommodate in access, transportation, employment, education, and many other arenas. Unfortunately, the art world is no exception. — Hyperallergic
Emily Sara, a disabled, interdisciplinary artist and designer, penned an open letter calling on the art world for stronger support of the neurodiverse and disabled communities, whose everyday needs are often overlooked in American society. She names a few examples of how the art world inadvertently reinforces ableism, such as the controversial Vessel, the accessibility of several New York galleries, and the lackluster representation of disabled artists in exhibitions.
“Regarding the art world, navigating and addressing these issues will require taking fundamental steps toward inclusion, from implementing practical solutions to increasing awareness among art institutions and community members,” Emily Sara writes in her letter. “I am therefore calling on galleries, curators, museums, institutions of higher education, artists, and other art institutions: welcoming the neurodiverse and disabled is long overdue.”

A "disabled, interdisciplinary artist and designer" asking for more representation of disabled artists in exhibitions? Any chance that more of her art could make it in to these exhibitions? Are disabled people not represented in art exhibitions due to discrimination or could they largely be a minority, especially among younger people? Note that we have had many famous disabled artists throughout history, and maybe its just a question of what you consider disabled.
what is neurodiverse?

I’m abled and I have no desire to go up the Vessel ... maybe because it’s such an eff you to everyone
I’m abled and have no desire to go up the vessel because it sucks.
Neurodiverse- "displaying or characterized by autistic or other neurologically atypical patterns of thought or behavior; not neurotypical."
Who and how do we definitively put people in the 'typical' category and others in the atypical one? isn't that neuroframing?
It’s hard keeping up with this stuff. Before you know it, the color blind will be complaining that paintings are colorist.
I liked it better when liberals were more about finding commonalities among people than differences. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1j4rrgr0KeU
Lol, That’s hilarious. Yeah man, I agree.
Progressives have long been about celebrating differences, while conservatives have long been about ranking them. Neither side wants to get rid of differences, but both sides accuse the other of doing it.
That skit is hilarious, but let's be real - the dad is the butt of the joke there.
Progressives circa 2019 have little in common with liberals of yesteryear. Liberals used to be the party of celebrating individuality, for which you wouldn’t need all these categories.
Identity politics is about reducing individuals to categories so that they can be pandered to for votes.
In truth,
Sorry. In truth, identity politics is what we do as humans. We should celebrate our diversity, but with the epidemic of social isolation, I think it's important to stress what the latest science tells us, that we have much much more in common than not. BTW, didn't anyone who reviewed this not realize it isn't handicapped accessible?
The Vessel is a hell of an observation desk...so why did they have to put it in the most boring part of NYC?
The utter uselessness of building an observation platform that is shorter than everything around it.
THE NEURODIVERSE?
One day neurologists and researchers will be sued for trying to suppress the "diversity" that genetics and disease "gift" humanity with. Our society should be producing scientists, instead we are producing word marketing specialists. We are doomed.
