Starbucks has announced that the company plans to create 10,000 eco-friendly stores globally by 2025. The news follows other sustainability focused initiatives taken on by the coffee giant such as eliminating single-use plastic straws by 2020 and its partnership with McDonald's to create a compostable coffee cup.
“Simply put, sustainable coffee, served sustainably is our aspiration,” said the company's CEO Kevin Johnson. "We know that designing and building green stores is not only responsible, it is cost effective as well. The energy and passion of our green apron partners has inspired us to find ways to operate a greener store that will generate even greater cost savings while reducing impact.”
To do so, Starbucks has developed a six-part framework, coined The Greener Stores Framework, based on the LEED certification program and other sustainable operations. The framework offers a comprehensive model, laying out six key standards ranging from waste management tactics to design upgrades.
The move towards new sustainability standards will encompass both existing stores as well as renovations and new builds and is expected to save the company an incremental $50 million in utilities over the next 10 years. Alongside, the company also plans to work with its more than 330,000 partners to engage in more environmentally forward practices.
“This framework represents the next step in how Starbucks is approaching environmental stewardship, looking holistically at stores and their role in helping to ensure the future health of our natural resources,” said Erin Simon, Director of R&D at World Wildlife Fund, U.S. “When companies step up and demonstrate leadership, other businesses often follow with commitments of their own, driving further positive impacts.”

Does anybody care? This is a grossly overpriced coffee shop chain on the downslope of its existence. Feelgood blather buzzwords won't help at this point. I had rather go to the dentist for a root canal than go in one of their stores.
...insert [old man yells at cloud] meme here...
If you don't like the Starbucks you're in, try the one across the street. It's exactly the same stale burnt shit.
You have to hand it to them, they are extremely consistent.
