London architecture practice Nex- have won an open design competition to build a new restaurant on the King Road Chelsea. Named the Cadogan Café, the new full-service restaurant will be open from breakfast through to evening meals.
The café has a sleek 'ribbon-like' wall of white polished concrete that curls round to a circular seating area for over 100 diners. A curved glass wall tracing the perimeter rises and falls into the basement depending on the weather. This is a world first in glass design and allows flexible yearly use and al-fresco dining.
Featuring a new public rooftop terrace overlooking the square and the Saatchi Gallery, the cafe allows visitors to sit amidst the bustling Duke of York Square and enjoy the surrounding environment.
Construction is planned to begin in Autumn 2016 and completed by Autumn 2017.
Hugh Seaborn, Chief Executive of the Cadogan Estate said, ‘The Jury was won over by Nex’s design, which combines functionality with a sense of elegant self-containment – their building will be sleek as well as inventive and fun. '
