Weren't the unique needs of a media/conglomerate like Fox, part of the rational for the building as proposed by BIG?
ie: "Murdoch gave Ingels the task of fitting his ideal workplace into a vertical structure...Over the course of six months, a BIG team came up with a concept that divided the skyscraper into seven boxes"
^that's just marketingspeak. Office space is work space with a view - the rest is just how you sell it to tenants and make them think they got something special to suit their superspecial company.
As a prominent NY office developer told us: I measure offices as butts in seats. I sell it as a vision for the future of work.
Indeed...
Murdoch sees the writing on the wall - an economy that won't survive another year. By the time this thing is built the only tenants will be spiders.
See previous architect post: "2WTC Could be the Most Expensive Tower in the World"
IDK maybe the stacking blocks and twisting forms is played out already? The original foster design seemed better for FOX. More classy... Like 1WTC. BIGs new building on W57 looks like a vertical shanty town.
Silverstein will need to find new tenants, project goes on hold - then if new tenants come along, they will want a redesign - - from a different architect - then a new recession hits and...
murdoch is the one writing on the walls, it's his ( and his pals) economy and he can do whatever he wants with it.
Looks like they were needing more "public sector support" than previously thought. Perhaps it became to politically troublesome for free market FOX NEWS to be helped by Big Government.
