Back in February it was revealed that HFZ Capital Group was in talks to bring a “monumental” new structure to a lot at 76 11th Avenue in the Meatpacking District. And between shortlisted architects Rem Koolhaas and Bjarke Ingels, in April the developer decided to move forward with starchitect-of-the-moment Ingels for the high-profile project. Now Yimby has our first look at the design that may rise along the coveted High Line site. — 6sqft.com

Break the Internet, Bjarke Ingles.
"priced at 4 million and up." lol @ nyc ... lol @ architecture ...
can someone tell me the difference between this and any of trumps shitty elitist towers? Preferably something beyond style.
this reminds me of Studio Gang's earlier scheme which has the same 'leaning' / 'carved' massing idea. tbh from these renderings its kind of hard to understand what the tower is.
still waiting...
Fuck you Bjarke, I only have $3.95 million, please cut me a deal Mr. Developer...
jla-x, Which Trump towers are you referring to? They're all different.
No, they really are not all that different. You can shape a turd into a silly little sculpture but at its core it is still a turd. A luxury condo is a luxury condo...
jla-x, Trump wouldn't waste all that money on the arbitrary structural gymnastics, but the style is the same... boring.
when firms get known, they start doing shit like this..it is nothing unique, just some sculptural design with a lot of money.. it's actually a terrible architecture for its' residents.. still, people want to see that in their cities!!

Really?
Glass highrises, built with bankrupted investor's money, plastered with the douchebag's name. All the same to me.
we used to call this "sausage factories"; when you go from very well thought design to something that needs to get out for bidding in two weeks. it's all downhill from here, but well paid.
" A luxury condo is a luxury condo..."
Its sort of like saying that any burger that costs more than $15 tastes bad.
I'm also annoyed by NYC's rampant gentrification and the extreme wealth gap, but this doesn't correlate with design quality. My somewhat affordable neighborhood in Brooklyn has ridiculously bad design and bad property management by landlords.
And which Architecture firms are not doing luxury work these days? They all participate in it. But of course Bjarke, the Kim Kardashian of Architecture, is going to be scrutinized in a way that H&deM, Ando, Selldorf, Nouvel, Shigeru Ban etc. won't.
any burger that costs more than 15$ probably tastes good. Some burgers that cost more than 15$ probably taste bad. This particular 15$ burger was made by taking a burger from Mcdonalds dollar menu and twisting into a silly shape and putting it into a 14$ box. In otherwords, it is not better in its ingredients it just gains its value bu re-styling a regular cheap thing...
Can you explain why this is "good design"?

There's nothing surprising here... Developers know that BIG can get a project done, impress the critics (PR) and media, without challenging their bad taste.
I'd love to see a project meeting.
"Just do some more pyramid-y stuff, I'm going to a conference I'll see you in a month"
Don't kid yourself, there's a whole lot of ass kissing going on.
you all severely underestimate HFZ!
read Ziel's goals.

Thayer-D and Miles,
I was being sarcastic. I'm paraphrasing what someone (I forget who) said a while back on this site.
It still seems fitting. He is quite good at the publicity thing.
^ what exactly is he "good at" or I should say good enough at to warrant such fame?
So, by your logic fame is proof of talent? Are you a Beliber too?
Hes good at getting fame via architecture, and/or getting architecture via fame?
so you believe we live in a meritocracy? I disagree.
Architecture is perhaps not perfectly meritocratic but it also does not guarantee success for rich kids or charming salespersons, or ivy leaguers, or hard workers, or poetic builders, or self promoters, or pretty faces, or great observers, or brilliant theoreticians... There is no formula that will guarantee the level of success that BIG has reached. Its extremely rare. The only guarantee is that once you've earned that success, there will be people who will argue you didn't earn it the right way.
