The first new cultural centre in the capital since the 1960s is to be built on Bankside near the South Bank.
The £2.2m building, which is due to open in 2006, will be situated near to the Tate Modern and the Globe Theatre. Architects shortlisted include a-Graft, AOC, Bernard Tschumi, Caruso St John, Foreign Office Architects, Lacaton and Vassal, MVRDV and Zaha Hadid. BBC
