The story broke in December when the Park Life gallery and its online store appeared to be selling bookends that resemble artworks in artist's pop oeuvre. The artwork in question are the Balloon Dogs, gigantic multiples made in various colors with shiny patinas once installed at Versailles.
In the public debate that lit up the blogosphere, Park Life argued that the bookends appearing on its website were a classics of balloon twisting much older than Koons' own appropriation of the carnivalesque children's toy.
ah, irony
